Electronic Social Club Event

Hello everyone - I ran into Sara Nelson Wright from the IMA/MFA program at Hunter and she invited me to an upcoming event of the “Electronic Social Club (ESC).” The ESC bills itself as a “network of NYC graduate students connected by the practice of creating social dialogue through projects in media, art and design. If anyone else is interested in attending, here is the information Sara sent me:

Like a social club, [ ESC ] is formed around a common interest, activity or location. We bring together MFA students from across New York City to meet and showcase their graduate art work, and to form a common network around the theme of creating social dialogue through art and media. This semester’s program includes five presentations, six video works, and twelve installations by students from eight graduate programs.

Homemade Overseas Realities

This interactive installation allows users to physically manipulate war images and create new realities.

The Last Friday
Daniel Vatsky | Polytechnic University
A live-action video game based on Critical Mass deals with free speech and the right to assemble in public space.

Neighborhood Network Watch
Emery C. Martin | NYU ITP
A fictitious community based organization playfully critiques surveillance and current anti-terrorism policy.

Simasticus
Marcus Pingel, Chris Hennelly, and Charles Yust | Parsons Design & Technology
A public space project translates urban streets to the screen for a scaled-up version of the popular game, The Sims.

ICED! I Can End Deportation
Heidi Boisvert | Hunter College MFA IMA
You are a Mexican illegal immigrant, an Indian green-card holder or a student on a visa from Japan. This online 3D role-playing game allows players to step into the shoes of immigrants.
